Cleveland Berto / Shemes

Cleveland Berto was born in West Palm Beach, Fla. A first generation American, he caught the acting bug during his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln in fifth grade. Berto earned a scholarship to San Francisco State University, where he obtained a bachelors degree in Theatre.

While in San Francisco, Berto starred in numerous contemporary and classical productions. One of his noted works was his portrayal of Othello in Shakespeare’s Othello, which announced his arrival as a budding star. He went on to gain critical acclaim for his work as Aaron in an off-campus production of Shakespeare’s Titus Adronicus.

After graduation, Berto moved to Los Angeles where he starred in his national commercial debut, Beyond the Boundaries, and did national print campaigns.

He is thrilled to play the role of Shemes in The Garden and believes this role reflects very well his outstanding leadership qualities, passion, and intense drive. Berto believes that portraying Shemes’ internal conflict will allow him the opportunity to stretch his range as an actor.

“I thoroughly enjoyed working with Michael Montgomery and the entire Garden crew, and believe this role will fully round out my acting repertoire,” said Berto.
